No happy ending. . . .

Day 7

When we went on our camping trip at the end of May someone moved into our garden!!

A beautiful Song thrush manage to complete her nest in the four day we where away.

Even though we have a busy garden, with people coming and going she decided to lay five beautiful blue eggs.

Tucked away in the clematis she started to sit on her eggs.
(she did leave the nest but was normally in the garden)

Then this morning although the nest still looked perfect the Song thrush had vanished and below the nest I found a broken egg.

I once again carefully poked the camera in to take a picture and sadly there are now only three eggs.

The Song thrust has gone, given up on our garden and is hopefully trying again somewhere else.

Not a very happy 'wild day' but that is nature.
I did think it was better happening now before any chicks hatched, it would have been even sadder if something had eaten her chicks.

  1. That's a shame, they are beautiful eggs... like you say it's just nature...

    1. I know it sounds selfish, but at least now we can make a racket outside without worrying about the nest. If we ever get summer weather, we'll now be able to have a BBQ. Sarah

  2. Nature can be cruel sometimes, shame about the eggs, they were crackers too (pardon the pun).

    1. I'd love to know what got the eggs, the nest is not disturbed. A magpie or crow would have destroyed the nest, who else could have got the eggs?? Sarah
