Summer Holiday - Snap of the Day (Kittens)

On Friday we had arranged to visit my Sons friend from school.
Not a normal 'call around to play'.

A long awaited visit to see there new kittens!!

All super cute and very playful . . . . . and then its time to rest!!!

Now every time we pass the end of there street I get 'Can we go and see the kittens?'
I said ' I don't think your friend will be in'
He said  'We could just look in through the windows, we'll be able to see the kittens!'
I'm not going round peering in through peoples windows!!!!

Summer Holiday - Snap of the Day

How exciting, on Thursday I went to the car showroom to pick up a new car!!!!!

Sadly it wasn't for me, I was just the chauffeur.

But my lovely Niece is now the proud owner of a shiny new car!!

Summer Holiday - Snap of the Day

Earlier in the Holidays we did a bit of Mum/Son DIY.

We made a planter for an ugly/shady area in our garden. The ferns went in on wednesday, all we need now is some barkchip mulch to finish it off.

Summer Holiday - Snap of the Day (Beach)

We do like to be beside the seaside . . . .

Wow, was it hot on Tuesday.

Penny had a little paddle but was lovely and dry when we got back to the car.
Spreading sand in the car just like the children, taking half the beach home.

Summer Holiday - Snap of the Day

What can I say?

I've been dairy free for over a year, but the children are definitely not.
Apple pie flavoured and Lemon meringue flavoured.

Summer Holiday - Snap of the Day

Last week, as my Son painted the shed I began the epic task of painting the fence.

Sunday afternoon I finished the fence around the back of the house.

Eighteen fence panels, all painted BLACK!!

I love it, it really shows off the plants. Just got the panels round the front to do . . . .
(I realise black isn't to everyone's taste, but I love it)

Summer Holiday - Snap of the Day

Is it really August? Was it still summer on Saturday?

We had a ride to Morecambe and it felt like we'd moved forward in time, to WINTER!!

Penny enjoyed a brisk walk along the sea front and she met a lovely Cocker Spaniel puppy, just the same colour with just as much energy!!!

But yes it was definitely a coat day.

Summer Holiday - Snap of the Day

Boys can multitask!! Yes on Friday my son painted the shed whilst talking non stop.......

So the shed got painted and I learned things I didn't know about YouTube, Xbox games, etc, etc.

Summer Holiday - Snap of the Day (Skipton)

We had a drive over to Skipton on Thursday.

A lovely wander down the canal. . . .

Then a look around the shops
(taking it in turns to look after Penny)

And we finished with a cup of tea in Cafe Neros where Penny happily sat under the table.
(Probably dreaming of having her very own Frappe Creme)

Summer Holiday - Snap of the Day

Wednesday was an early start, 8:10 dentist appointment!!! Ooh how those children love an early start.....

Followed by a little uniform shopping, what more could they ask for!
Shirts, bags, pencil cases, stationary, shoes......
(And a sneaky book for me)

Summer Holiday - Snap of the Day

Tuesdays challenge - keep the boy off technology during the day whilst staying home.

Maybe a bit of woodwork will do the trick.

The power tools always help, he's keen to use the drill but sawing semi wet wood is a job for Mum (so I'm told)

We did finish our new garden planter it just needs filling up. So a successful day.

Summer Holiday - Snap of the Day

Jobs, jobs, jobs......
I hate staying inside doing household jobs when the sun starts to shine.

So on Monday afternoon I dragged persuaded the children and Penny to join me on a trip to the local garden nursery.
Just a few purchases as there's not much in stock at the moment, they are waiting for autumn bulbs.
And NO the children where not allowed to put Penny in the trolley, even though they went on and on about pushing her around!!

Summer Holiday - Snap of the Day (Lancaster Canal)

After spending most of Saturday washing clothes and sorting out after our time in Oxford, I was determined to go out on Sunday!!!

I returned to our challenge of cycling the Lancaster Canal.
Now we have Penny I've updated the challenge to include walking and today we completed a small section.
Garstang Marina to bridge 71 Cabus Nook Lane.

Oxford - Part 2

Thursday was wall to wall sunshine all day!!

Perfect for some outdoor wandering.

Along Broad Walk. . . .

 Past Christ Church Cathedral.

Our destination was the Botanical Gardens

It was a lovely tranquil space in the heart of the city.

After the gardens, with our trusty map, we went in search of a book shop!!!

This is no ordinary bookshop, the shelves stretch for miles . . .

Then just across the road to the Museum of the History of Science.

By this point we all had blisters, all that walking . . . .

We had a place in mind for an early tea.

But enough time to spare for a wander around the courtyard at Nuffield College.

A beautiful place to sit and rest our weary feet.

Friday was time to check out and head for home.
(Called at Ikea on the way home, well we where passing . . . )
(Well done for sticking it out to the end, there really are a lot of photos)

Oxford - Part 1 (warning - lots of photos!!)

So, as you may have guessed, we've had a little trip to Oxford

We travelled down on Tuesday and after booking into our Hotel we had a little look around.

On Wednesday, armed with a map, we set off for the Ashmolean Museum (above).
I'm sure its a great day out most people but not for us. Its all a little bit serious, lots of reading, lots of glass cases, lots of quiet and no backpacks!!!

Out with the map, lets try somewhere else.

Everything about this Museum we loved, the building, the space, the happy noise, the labels saying 'Please Touch'. . . . . .

Through a door at the back of the Museum lies the equally amazing Pitt Rivers Museum

Case after case of amazing things, something really to suit everyone's interests.

Where else are you going to hear your children discussing how to shrink a human head???

Back out into the rain and back to the map.

We spent the remainder of the day wandering the streets

Spotting lots of Oxfords most famous locations.

Even on a grey day it really is beautiful.

So that's about it for wet Wednesday, luckily the forecast for Thursday was sun, sun, sun.
