Street art !

Day 26

We live on a very quiet close, no through traffic and pretty considerate neighbours.

But still I struggle to get the kids to play out (hence 30 days wild, to encourage my son)

Today we got out the pavement chalks.

This activity some times spreads all the way down the road, but today we just had a small sample of street art.

Any time outside is better than nothing!

Black & Yellow

Day 25

What's black and yellow?

What did I spot in our garden?

A wasp?

No not A WASP!!!!!

A whole b****y nest full of wasps!!

I thought a bird was peeping out of the nest box near my green house, so off I went for a closer look!!

No not a pretty little bird, but a bunch of angry wasps!!

Not a very good wild day.

Running out of steam . . .

Day 24

Yes, we're definitely running out of steam.

On Day 24 we did a cloud watch.

As we did the daily school reading,

we kept peeping out of the back door for a cloud photo.

It was a glorious day.

Maybe it would be fun to do in a thunder storm.

But all we got was beautiful blue sky, may we have more of it. . . . .

Sports day

Day 23

Today I have no photos (a sigh of relief for some people!!).

Today was school sports day. I spent the morning cheering on the races and my son spent the morning chatting with friends, ooh and doing the occasional race.

As I'd taken the day off work, I spent some of the afternoon cutting the grass!!

Not very wild, but definitely out doors!

Tuesday 23 June 2015

Poppy. . . .

Day 22

Back to work and school today, I know it sounds like an excuse but its getting really difficult fitting everything in.

We only spent a bit of time outdoors today. I did a bit of garden tidying and my son did some bike riding. I didn't take any photos of the bike or the sorry looking garden BUT I did take a few photos of my beautiful Poppy.

I only have one at the moment but WOW its beautiful.

Revisit the sandwich tray with sand. . . .

Day 21

For day 21 of our 30 days wild we revisited our 'bird trap' (sandwich tray with sand!!)

We've had lots of visitors.

Occasionally we've added some water to start afresh.

I have wished some of the smaller birds would stamp down a bit!!

The trusty blackbird is definitely the winner!!

Sunday 21 June 2015

Trail cam update.

Day 20

For day 20 we had a look through our trail cam photos.
I've picked out a few that we liked, but I'm not sure how easy they are to look at on the blog!

This one shows a blackbird mid take off.

This shows a collard dove mid landing, not the most graceful !

This one shows a mouse visiting over night.
(If you think its a rat, please don't tell me, I don't want to know)

Only a bit wild. . . . .

Day 19

Today was an easy 'wild thing' (if it really counts!)

The weather has been a bit chilly here in the UK.
I try and grow some veg every year, and normally I would have all my courgettes planted out by now. The first batch that went out have either grown very slowly or been completely eaten by slugs.

The last few plants have stayed in the green house.

So with the arrival of a big wooden box (my other half can get them from work) I just needed some extra compost.

So for my semi-wild thing, we planted out our courgettes in the green house. Its not much but it kept my little boy out side (even if he did spend some of his time messing with the trail cam)

Thursday 18 June 2015

Sandwich anyone?

Day 18

After yesterday, we needed to try harder.

So we headed to the shops to buy a sandwich tray. . . . . A bit weird, but stick with me!

Using sand from our old sandpit, we put a shallow layer in the bottom of the tray.

We spread it out thinly, then placed our bird food in the middle.

Hopefully when we have some visitors they will leave footprints.

If the sand doesn't work we might try compost with some water, yes a mud pie!

Not very Wild, sorry. . . .

Day 17

Today was hard. Its been a long week (I know its only Wednesday ..).

What wild thing can I do?

Ooh I forgot to feed my Mums chickens yesterday,

That's all I came up with, pretty poor really, but at least I spent some time outdoors.

After school my son spent some time racing up and down the street on his bike.

Not very wild, must try harder!!

Tuesday 16 June 2015

Buzz off. . .. .

Day 16

Can you see the Bee in the photo below? No nether can I.
They move pretty fast.

I followed the Bee back to the nest
(I already knew they had taken over my nest box thingy)

We watched for some time, they seem to shoot off into neighbouring gardens. It makes me want to rethink our garden flowers. The clematis which surrounds the bird box must not be any good, as they flew straight past!!

I tried to get some photos so we could identify it in our garden wildlife book, but I'm still not sure.

If anyone out there knows what sort of Bee it is, please let us know!!!

Monday 15 June 2015

Bugs, bugs and more bugs. (no photos again)

Day 15

Today we have internet, hallelujah!!

I'll apologies in advance, I'm feeling very lazy today, I haven't taken any photos and only managed a bug hunt.

The weather today has been very nice, so following on from a previous 'wet day bug hunt' we thought we'd try again.

We found :
Frog hoppers,
Lily beetle eggs,
Wood lice'
Big snails
Big slugs,
Green aphids
Ants,
Bee,
Wasp
and Daddy Long Legs (Crane fly)

Note to self - Must try to be more imaginative tomorrow.

Wild party!! (no photos)

Day 14

On Sunday my little boy had a children's party to go to. The party was a playing out party at the local country park. He did den building, tree climbing, orienteering, generally playing 'wild'.
Sorry no photos as I didn't get to go.

I on the other hand, cleaned out the pets and went for a short walk (not very wild at all)

I was pretty wild later when the internet wasn't working!!!!

Saturday 13 June 2015

Quack, quack, quack.

Day 13

Today we had a grand day out. We headed to Liverpool on the train to see the ducks.

The ducks had been around the city, but today they had flocked to the docks in a little group (much easier to photograph)

Our only purchase (other than clothes for ever growing children) was a Garden Wildlife book.
My little boy had a look on the way home, in the first photo a train went whizzing by!!

Chicken run. . . . .

Day12

So for day 12 we had a 'pet sitting' job to do.

My Mum and Dad are on holiday so we need to feed the chickens and collect the eggs.

Just four eggs today!!

Thursday 11 June 2015

Playing out

Day 11

So today I've spent most of the day outside.
I've planted, re-potted, trimmed and generally tidied up outside!

I've appreciated that although my garden won't win awards, it is a lovely space, especially on a beautiful day like today.

I can even appreciate the daisy's !

Bugsie enjoyed a play out!

And when my son got home from school he helped me 're home' some lily beetles

There happily living in the green recycle bin, until Monday (bin day) when they will be living . . . . .somewhere else. . . .
