Mothers Day cake!!

Mothers Day for lots of people is very commercial.
At our house its always been about home made gifts.

This year its cake, boiled fruit cake!

This was done in between making my Lego cushion.

I completely forgot to take a photo of the cake before decorating began. . . . .

The pan above is replacing one of those lovely cake decorating turn tables !!!

Red food colour mixed with white sugar paste = blood bath in kitchen as the excess dye squirts out.

Ready, just in time for a trip to my Mother in laws on Friday. Then just keep the kids away from the other cake, which we delivered yesterday.

Hope everyone had a lovely 'day of rest' on Mothers day (I personally think it should be Mothers week!!)

Lego red.

Taking on-board advice from Amanda at Rabbit House Lane I logged onto Pinterest!!

Several hours later . . . . .I decided to buy a (lego) red pillow case.

My inspiration was close at hand.

The sewing machine was dusted off.

So there you have it,  one happy little boy and hopefully no more dust on my sewing machine.

Melancholy . . . .

My sewing mojo has deserted me.
I can't think of anything to make.
I don't want to sew.
I feel a little melancholy.

What shall I do?

Drag the family to the beach!!

Don't be fooled by the blinding sun - It was cold!!

The tide was in, but hadn't brought any sea side treasure with it, just pebbles.

Onto the promenade, the rain came, then the hail.

Just to the glitter ball, then back to the car.

Do you know the Muffin Man?

Do you know the Muffin Man, well actually the muffin thief ??

The last muffin . . . .

It's a good job its a quick receipe!

No burnt fingers, we will just have to wait. . . .

World Museum Liverpool.

On Saturday we made an early start and headed to Liverpool.

Not for the shops (no thanks - not with children trailing behind), we went to the World Museum.

The children moved very quickly through the museum,

often leaving us adults behind !!

As Museums go it was extremely welcoming with lots of things for all ages.

Would I recommend a visit? Most definitely!!

And for my niece, a photo of the giant spider (lets hope its still there and it didn't follow us home)

World Book Day.

World Book Day always sneaks up on me, every year I seem to be making an outfit at the last minute.
(Dressing gowned used for a template)

This year I only have one outfit to make / buy. (High school girls don't do World Book Day)

I even had my assistant to help this year, eagerly willing to to try on the outfit  in between snacking at my work table the table.

Black is not a colour I normally sew with !!

The 'sewing' created a bit of a mess. . . .

But it was all worth it, let me introduce, from Lord of the Rings -
My little Ring Wraith

I'm not sure if they wore school shoes in the film? Maybe not, but they are at least black.

Unfortunately he was ready for school tooooo early, but Ring Wraiths can use a tablet to pass a bit of time.

I hope everyone enjoys World Book Day and I'm looking forward to seeing lots of costume in 'blog land'.

Fog . . .

The sky is blue today as I emerge from a fog. Not a weather fog but a sewing fog.

I'd love to say due to lots of work commitments I've not been sewing - not true.
I'd love to say due to family days out I've not been sewing - not true.
I'd love to say I've been busy doing DIY - not true.
I'd love to say I've been busy in the garden - not true.

The truth is I've lost my sewing mojo.
I've had plenty of time but I just can't think of anything I want to sew, nothing!!

But today I bought some fabric, I can feel a bit of sewing coming on. . . .

Then I read some books (well flicked through them really)

Maybe it is blue sky all the way, no more fog!

Ooh and I really need to make a World Book Day outfit for Thursday, no rush. . . . .
